Emergency Generators

The purpose of this program is to protect the people of the State of Vermont from the risk of injury or death from unapproved emergency generator installations by the adoption and enforcement of nationally recognized safety codes and by the certification, education and training of people doing emergency generator installation work.

A Certification of Fitness (TQP) is required for all individuals performing activities related to fire or life safety, based on the qualifications below.

Currently Adopted Codes

  • NFPA 70 - National Electrical Code - Current Vermont Adopted Edition
  • NFPA 110 - Standard for Emergency and Standby Power Systems - Current Vermont Adopted Edition

Please Note: The Vermont Division of Fire Safety does not sell code books. Please contact National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to purchase the codes and standards.
