Oil Burner Installers

The purpose of this program is to protect the people of the State of Vermont from the risk of injury or death  from unsafe oil burner installations. Vermont has adopted and enforces the nationally recognized safety codes and licenses, educates and trains people doing oil burner installation work. A Certification of Fitness (TQP) is required for all individuals performing activities related to fire or life safety, based on the qualifications below.

  • NFPA 1, Uniform Fire Code Current Vermont Adopted Edition
  • NFPA 30 Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code Current Vermont Adopted Edition
  • NFPA 31 Standard for the Installation of Oil-Burning Equipment Current Vermont Adopted Edition
  • NFPA 90A Standard for the Installation of Air-Conditioning and Ventilating Systems , Current Vermont Adopted Edition
  • NFPA 90B Standard for the Installation of Warm Air Heating and Air Conditioning Systems Current Vermont Adopted Edition

Please Note: The Vermont Division of Fire Safety does not sell code books. Please contact National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to purchase the codes and standards. 

 

Oil Burning Equipment Installer

The installation, inspection and service of oil burning equipment.

Qualifications

Successful completion of the examination for Silver Certificate from the National Oil Heat Research Alliance (NORA).

Continuing Education

Eight (8) hours of related instruction during the previous three (3) years including at least two hours regarding prevention of CO leakage and the procedure for inspection, or a current silver or gold certificate from NORA.

In the 2020 Legislative session, (S.220) was signed into law requiring many trade professionals to complete a Vermont Energy Goals Education Module.  The educational module and completion certificate may be accessed by clicking on the link below .

If you are applying for a new license or certification or renewing an existing license or certification, after July 1, 2021, you are required to complete the educational module. Please make sure you provide a copy of the completion certificate with your application.

The limited installation, inspection and service of oil burning equipment.

Qualifications

Successful completion of the examination for Bronze Certificate from the National Oil Heat Research Alliance (NORA).

Continuing Education
