The Vermont Fire Academy is based in Pittsford, VT with a primary focus of delivering training to responders throughout the state.  This website is used to distribute timely course information and is updated on a continual basis, so please check back frequently and feel free to contact us with any questions you have.

Fire Instructor I Program Location Announced    

Orientation Date:  Monday, January 7, 2019
Location: Poultney Fire Department
Time: Weeknight class time: 1800 - 2200
         Weekend class time: 0800 - 1700
Registration Deadline:  4:00 PM on Monday, December 24, 2018
Attendance at every class meeting is mandatory for successful completion of this program.
This program is designed to qualify fire service responders to deliver instruction from a prepared lesson plan. Upon successful completion, students are awarded nationally registered certifications in accordance with NFPA 1041, Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications, 2012 edition.
- Currently active with three years of experience in fire or emergency services
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current Firefighter I or higher or equivalent EMS certification (EMT, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic
To register, download the General Admission Application, fill it out and return it to the Vermont Fire Academy by the registration deadline.  Priority will go to Vermont Firefighters. Applicants who are EMS providers and not Firefighters must submit a copy of their EMS license with the general admission application.  The class minimum is 8 students and the class maximum is 12 students.
Please note students will need a laptop/computer access for homework assignment.

Firefighter II Program Announced

Registration Deadline:  4:00 PM on Thursday, December 20, 2018


Click here for a General Admission Application form and submit it for the program you want to attend. The capacity limit is 40 and the minimum is 15 students per program, admission will be determined by the date your application is received, with priority given to adult firefighters who are members of a Vermont Fire Department.  All applications are due by the close of business on the application deadline listed above.

REMINDER: Applicants who have already completed any of the classes listed below and do not wish to repeat the class within the Firefighter program, must submit the respective course completion certificate/card to the Vermont Fire Academy by the application deadline. 

-         Valid Vermont Certification 
-         ICS 200 (taken within the last 10 years)
-         Hazardous Material Operations (within 2 editions of the current standard)

We will not accept any additional documentation after the application deadline. If we don’t receive any of the above, students will be expected to attend the class when it is offered within the program.  Student manuals are not returnable after Orientation. The sponsoring department will be charged for the cost of the student manual if a student fails to complete the program.  Students must be 18 years of age at the start date of the program that they are enrolling in.  Please feel free to contact the Vermont Fire Academy with any questions that you may have.
