Registration & Breakfast: 7:00 - 8:30 am
Presentation: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Effective size-up and building reads as fire companies and personnel arrive on-scene at an evolving fire scene is mission-critical for the safe and effective management and mitigation of an incident. The most common building and occupancy types can be identified as residential occupancy, the traditional type III brick and joist buildings found along “Main Street”, and the small-footprint commercial buildings found in nearly any community setting from the countryside to the suburban and urban interface.
This program incorporates the Buildingsonfire FACTS model for first-arriving construction, tactics and safety, integrating best practices on fire dynamics, tactical windows of operations, and the predictable manner in which these buildings and occupancies will perform under fireground conditions. Included is a look at tactical risks and key considerations for the first-due company, Company Officer, and Incident Commander; specifically highlighting hazards that affect and influence operational risk management, command and tactical safety, and how to choose tactical protocols based upon occupancy risks. It will help you read the building and teach adaptive management principles, with a methodology and process to increase operational effectiveness and ensure critical building factors are identified, assessed, and monitored throughout the incident.
The program will address both old legacy-era residentials common to the traditional farmhouse, village Victorian, the four-square, the light-wood frame engineered modern house, mini- and mega-mansions, the Main Street brick and joist, adaptive re-utilized taxpayer buildings, and the newest hybrid small footprint commercial occupancy. This program is applicable to all experience levels and organizational ranks.
