The Division adopts and enforces nationally recognized safety codes to protect Vermonters from the risk of fire, explosion and carbon monoxide poisoning. All individuals engaged in the inspection, installation, and service of Propane (LP) or Natural Gas systems must be certified as required under the Vermont Fire and Building Safety Code.

Natural Gas Installer
The installation, inspection and service of natural fuel gas systems.
Qualifications
Successful completion of the American Gas Association (AGA) course of study
including the Fundamentals of Combustion, Gas Appliance Venting, Electricity, Gas Controls and Gas Appliances.
Continuing Education
Eight (8) hours of related instruction during the previous 3 years including at least two hours regarding the prevention of CO leakage and the procedure for safety inspection of an existing appliance – NFPA 54 (annex H).
In the 2020 Legislative session, (S.220) was signed into law requiring many trade professionals to complete a Vermont Energy Goals Education Module. The educational module and completion certificate may be accessed by clicking on the link below .
If you are applying for a new license or certification or renewing an existing license or certification, after July 1, 2021, you are required to complete the educational module. Please make sure you provide a copy of the completion certificate with your application.

Liquified Propane (LP) Gas Installer
The installation, inspection, service, delivery, transfer and plant operations of LP gas systems.
Qualifications
Successful completion of National Propane Gas Association, Certified Employee Training Program (CETP) sections 1, 4.1, 4.2, 6 and 7 installation, inspection, service; and for people involved with LP gas delivery, plant operations and transfer system operations, the successful completion of CETP Sections 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 as required. [see section 1: 1.13.1 (7) of the Vermont Fire & Building Safety Code]
Continuing Education
