Fire Education Handouts and Flyers
Unfortunately, Due to increasing costs, the division is not able to provide large quantities of free fire safety education handouts. We do try to keep a supply in our trailers for use at events. We do have a few recommendations.
Cost Savings Ideas
- Download free digital publications and print master's from online sources.
- Use master's to make photocopies of the handout locally for attendees’ reference after the event.
- Utilize the resources from FEMA, the US Fire Administration, and other national organizations to download or order free publications. Many of these items are in the public domain and are not copyrighted.
About Handouts
Many companies and organizations encourage fire departments, schools, civic groups, workplaces, and the media to copy and distribute materials for public education use, however you may not revise or alter the materials. These materials are generally Not for commercial use and must include an attribution line.
Content
Educational messaging for fire and life safety must be relevant, meaningful, actionable, and above all, accurate. You should always review the content of your handout materials. Sometimes you will need to tailor an educational message to fit the needs of the intended audience.
To ensure accurate and consistent language, all education messages should conform to the current Educational Messages Advisory Committee Educational Messages Desk Reference published by NFPA . This guide provides fire and life safety educators with accurate and consistent language for use when offering safety information to the public. When applicable, the messages are made consistent with NFPA’s codes, standards, and related criteria.
Co-Branding
Many companies and organizations want you to co-brand with them by putting your logo and information on the handout material.
