The State of Vermont adopts nationally recognized fire alarm codes and standards. Fire alarm systems when properly installed and maintained alert occupants to the early stages of fire development. The early detection of smoke and or carbon monoxide is critical in providing building occupants the ability to escape before the environment becomes untenable. Fire alarm system installations depend on the specific use of the building. For example; where people sleep, early detection of smoke is critical. Many systems provide fire department notification automatically therefore reducing emergency response time.
A Certification of Fitness (TQP) is required for all individuals inspecting and testing fire alarm and detection systems and equipment as follows:
Qualifications
Master Electrician, Journeyman Electrician or G7(c) Type S Journeyman Electrician for fire alarm systems.
