Fire Safe 802 program Resource Center

Vermont families face numerous high fire risks. In the last 5 years, there has been 33 fire deaths in Vermont. 54.2% of the fire deaths were seniors over the age of 60. The leading factors in Vermont fire deaths are lack of understanding of the fire issues in homes and lack of working smoke and co alarms. We continue to recognize the many barriers and challenges facing our public fire safety education activities in small rural communities.

The Fire Safe 802 program is a comprehensive statewide community risk reduction project and a fire safety education campaign. This project will build on past statewide fire prevention efforts and enhance our current efforts to reach high-risk Vermonters and mitigate the incidence of death and injuries caused by fire and fire-related hazards in single-family homes.
