Municipal Enforcement
The Vermont Department of Public Safety, Division of Fire Safety, has entered into cooperative inspection agreements with several Vermont towns and cities. These agreements provide closer coordination between inspectors, local permitting, and improved service for property owners and developers.
The various inspection agreements involve fire, electrical, accessibility, plumbing and structural building codes. Some agreements cover most aspects of the codes while other agreements are limited to just a part of the code, or a certain classification of buildings such as apartment buildings.
Municipal agreements may or may not cover federally certified health care facilities, high-rise buildings, and state owned buildings. Contact your local municipality for additional information.
If you would like to discuss an inspection agreement or have other questions please contact the Fire Safety Central Office at 802-479-7561
