Rope Operations Level 1 - Hartford

Prerequisites:  Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent.  A valid CPR/AED and First Aid card and proof of Hazardous Materials Awareness level training (or higher level of certifications) must be submitted with the General Admission Application.

Register by submitting a General Admission Application to the Vermont Fire Academy by the deadline indicated above.

Rope Rescue - Level I is a very intense and hands-on, five-day program featuring a combination of classroom and practical evolutions combined with real life scenarios. This course is designed to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the requirements of NFPA 1006 - Level I and NFPA 1670 to the Operations Level. Students will be challenged both mentally and physically to complete the rope rescue objectives and scenarios that will be based in both low and high angle environments.
 
Topics include team and rescuer safety, personal protective equipment, rope rescue fundamentals, terrain assessment, equipment selection, inspection and maintenance, belaying techniques, patient packaging, belaying, rappelling, raising and lowering systems, load distributing and load sharing anchor systems, as well as simple and compound mechanical advantage systems.
